MUSIC HALL
1911 THE FULL MECHANICAL ORCHESTRA
2010 SOLD 482 K$ INCLUDING PREMIUM
PRE SALE DISCUSSION
The link between automata and time instruments is obvious. Another interesting development of automata was the mechanical musical instruments, working with perforated paper rolls and whose crank movements were later superseded by electrical systems.
The Hupfeld company, in Leipzig, manufactured mechanical pianos, violins and even orchestras, the latter being named orchestrions. Its largest built model was the Helios III, of which only two copies are known. These instruments were intended to dancing and entertainment halls at a time when sound recording techniques could not yet compete with them.
This 3 meters high cabinet (dimensions to be confirmed at the release of the catalogue) consists of a central body and two wings, offering 52 notes of the chromatic scale in a variety of sounds produced by 296 metal and wooden pipes imitating piano, strings and wind instruments, while percussion systems directly produced drums, cymbals and bells.
One of the two, bearing the serial number Helios III/39, is being sold by Bonhams on October 7 in New York. On this specimen, electricity provides lighting effects of day and night in the central part animated by trains, waterwheels and zeppelins.
Created around 1911, it left its woodwork being devoured by worms until it was recovered a few decades later. It was restored to operational from 2000 to 2002 and is now estimated $ 800K, less than half of what it costed to its last owner whose bankruptcy causes the sale.
POST SALE COMMENT
The Orchestrion discussed above has been sold $ 400K before fees, $ 482K including premium.
The top result of the sale, $ 550K before fees, $ 658K including premium, was recorded on another instrument made by Hupfeld. This mechanical violin built in 1911 is one of the most complex of that brand.
A video introducing the sale is now shared by Bonhams :

1958 TROPHY TAKEN FROM ELVIS
2009 SOLD 18.3 K$ INCLUDING PREMIUM
PRE SALE DISCUSSION
In 1958, when he was 23 years old, the brilliant career of Elvis Presley is abruptly interrupted. He must go to his military service.
The barber in the army will be more gentle with him that the native American with white men, according to the popular imagination: he did not tear Elvis's scalp and he gave him his hair. The case must have been terrible for the young performer, who already wanted to be a model for his generation through his clothing, his look and his attitude. Needless to remind what was his huge success when he was returned to civilian life.
It seems that the prestigious hair has been separated into two parts. One, which is on sale at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago on October 18, had been kept by the president of an Elvis fan club, whose collection is now auctioned. The owner of the other part has discussed these locks and confirms the authenticity.
Formerly, history buffs were looking at the hair (and hats) of Napoleon. It is today Elvis's turn. How worth is this relic? Leave it to the auction game and do not give a figure for the moment: the catalog gives a reasonable price, but the press dreams much higher.
Guided by the auction house, I provide a link to the article from CBS 2, which includes a video with this lot.

Sold 18.3 K$ including premium, this lot almost doubled its low estimate of 8 K$. The auction house had cleverly attracted media by announcing the hope of much higher prices, but has kept a cool head when maintaining a reasonable estimate in the catalog.

1961 five boys in the clubs of hamburg
2015 sold for $ 94k including premium
The Beatles began their career at Liverpool, interspersed with five long stays in the red light districts of Hamburg between 1960 and 1962. John, Paul and George are singers and guitarists and Pete is the drummer.
In Hamburg, the band occasionally plays with the singer and guitarist Tony Sheridan. They are mad of Elvis with the irreverence of their twenty years. Their English songs in this German city fifteen years after the end of the war have a little taste of provocation that amuses the producer Bert Kaempfert.
A curious idea from Kaempfert will launch the fabulous career of the Beatles. He invites Tony and his friends to interpret German rhymes in English with the uptempo of rock and roll.
In June 1961, Bert Kaempfert Produktion establishes a contract with the Beatles for a recording session. Each of the boys earns about twenty dollars. Tony is not included; he probably got a separate contract.
A copy of the contract between Kaempfert and the Beatles is estimated $ 150K for sale by Heritage in New York on September 19, lot 89032. These six A4 pages were typed in German with onion skin paper beneath. The first page records the home addresses of the four contractors in Liverpool and the last page bears their autograph signatures.
At that time, the word Beatles is unpronounceable in German. In October 1961, Polydor publishes the single of My Bonnie by Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers.
Brian Epstein is a young Liverpool record store manager who has the ambition to become an impresario. He decides to sell the German record and then, on December 3, 1961, proposes to the Beatles that he becomes their manager. Under the wording of the catalog, "the rest is history".

1962 Epstein tames the Beatles
2015 SOLD for £ 365K including premium
The four boys are part of the trend for counter-culture of their time.Brian Epstein watches them performing in Liverpool after one of their escapades in Hamburg. If he manages to make the Beatlesmore presentable, their fame and his wealth are assured.
Hardly older than John, Paul, George and Pete, Brian brings the complement which they needed. He will manage their logistics, relations, finances (of course), and also their leading commitment in a new hair and clothing fashion that is altogether innovative and acceptable to the bourgeoisie.
Epstein is in a hurry, perhaps because he fears that the deal escapes him to the benefit of an already established impresario, which is not his case. A first contract is established on 24 January 1962. Epstein, strangely, does not sign it. He doubts on his own capability, and on that point he is wrong.
The success is around the corner. A producer for the EMI brand is interested. He does not like Pete, and it is left to Epstein to announce to the other three that Pete must be replaced by Ringo. The recording of the first single is scheduled. Epstein is preparing a new contract with the group which now enjoys its final composition.
The contract is signed on October 1, 1962 by all parties including the fathers of Paul and George who are not yet 21 years old. Epstein does not forget to stipulate that the percentage of his fees shall increase depending on the amplitude of the gains. A signed copy is estimated £ 300K for sale by Sotheby's in London on September 29, lot 42.
The career of the Beatles owes much to Epstein whose untimely death in 1967 by overdose of barbiturates is leading to the loss of the cohesion of the group. A self-destructive personality, Epstein kept the secret of the root cause for the impulse that made him raising a band of young rebels to the rank of a global phenomenon in the renewing of musical culture. His case is unique in the history of business.

1962 A Group of Four Beatles
2019 SOLD for £ 275k including premium
Rock and roll turns the heads of young musicians, literally and figuratively. Groups of boys just emerging from adolescence are created and dissolve according to the fantasies of their members. The Beatles will reach the highest peak of glory.
To survive, these groups must get concerts and find a name. The Beatles is a hybrid between the beetle, which is a response to Buddy Holly's Crickets, and the Beat generation which is a symbol of intellectual and sexual freedom. Four contracts mark the rise of the Beatles in the firmament of the music hall.
The first is a recording contract in German, signed in Hamburg in June 1961. Nobody knows these boys outside of Liverpool and Hamburg. The producer rejects their group name considered unpronounceable. They are here the Beat Brothers. A signed original copy was sold for $ 94K including premium by Heritage on September 19, 2015.
Back in Liverpool, John, Paul, George and Pete accept Brian Epstein's offer to act as their manager. On January 24, 1962, the contract is signed by the artists, each signature canceling a revenue stamp of 6 pence. Epstein, who was leading the meeting, refuses to sign. An original copy in this configuration of signatures is estimated £ 200K for sale by Sotheby's in London on July 9, lot 168. Please watch the video shared by the auction house.
The third step, in May 1962, is a recording contract with EMI Parlophone. The producer found that Pete, the drummer, was bad. He is replaced by Ringo. The January contract, which was nominative, becomes obsolete. A test record was sold for £ 77K including premium by Omega on March 22, 2016.
The five-year management contract binding the Beatles in their final configuration with Epstein is signed by all the parties on October 1, 1962. It is also signed by the fathers of the still minor George and Paul. A signed original copy was sold for £ 365K including premium by Sotheby's on September 29, 2015.
When he embarked on this successful adventure, Epstein had no similar experience. He later gave fallacious explanations for his withdrawal to sign in January. In fact he had appreciated too late that a document signed by teenagers was illegal in England.

1962 hullo little band !
2016 sold for £ 77k including premium
On 24 January 1962, the Beatles signed their first contract with Brian Epstein. They know nothing about business and apparently do not care that the apprentice impresario has not signed these documents.
Yet Epstein goes to work with boundless energy. A tape is rejected by Decca. Epstein and his friends go on 13 February to London in order to convince a manager of HMV (His Master's Voice). HMV offers a service by which individuals have the opportunity to record their music.
The 78 rpm 10 inch acetate disc realized at HMV on Epstein's initiative includes a song on each side. Epstein inscribes in a hurry the titles with two mis-spellings and identifies the authors and the group. Side 1: Hullo Little Girl, John Lennon and The Beatles, Lennon, McCartney. Side 2: Til There Was You, Paul McCartney and The Beatles.
HMV is a trademark of the EMI group. At first reluctant, George Martin accepts the project to which he brings his experience as a producer of music recordings for EMI. There is no compromise on the sound quality and he requires the exclusion of Pete.
This trial disc is unique. It was used as a model in July 1963 for two successive recordings of Hello Little Girl, the first by the Beatles and the second by Gerry and the Pacemakers. Epstein presents the acetate to the Gerry's pianist who kept it in his drawer without playing it for more than half a century.
The disc is estimated £ 10K to 20K for sale by Omega Auctions in Warrington (Cheshire) near Manchester on March 22, lot 214. It is illustrated in the article shared by BBC News. Here is the link to the auction house's website.
Unfortunately, George Martin died the day before yesterday, 8 March 2016. His passing was an opportunity for the press to resurface his key role in the success of the Beatles.

1962 the prophet of the rain
2015 unsold
Admirer of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan shares a heightened social sensitivity with his friends at Greenwich Village in New York. During the summer of 1962, he conceives his poem It's a hard rain's gonna fall. He is 21 years old.
The composition in stanzas of questions and answers is an imitation of Lord Randall, a medieval ballad published by Walter Scott in 1803. Dylan's theme is apocalyptic, providing at every line a short and sharp image of a major disaster viewed through the eyes of a boy.
The poem appears as pessimistic. The first draft is yet ended with a vivid call to action: "It's a hard rain must fall". It also included a line that was too terrible to be used in the later official version: "I heard the sounds of some people who cried they were human".
The typed document was used by Dylan to improve his text and it includes many autograph reworks. It is estimated £ 150K for sale by Sotheby's in London on September 29, lot 71.
The missile crisis in Cuba is triggered while Dylan is still working on his poem and composing its music, with the slightly modified title A hard rain's a gonna fall. The message of the poet reaches a great claiming and humanist strength. The final draft before recording was sold for $ 485K including premium by Sotheby's on June 24, 2014. At the same auction, the manuscript for Like a rolling stone was sold for $ 2,05M including premium.
Dylan has never clearly confirmed nor denied the direct influence of international political events in his poem. The ancient and recent history including slavery in the United States, Holocaust in Europe and the bomb on Hiroshima were indeed enough to support his desperate vision.
Dylan was a prophet of the derision of that American dream which had failed to oppose injustice. In graphic arts, Warhol comes on the foreground in the same year and blurs the meaning of Marilyn.

1963 An Australian Guitar
2015 SOLD for $ 485K including premium by Julien's
2018 SOLD for £ 350K including premium
PRE 2018 SALE DISCUSSION
John Lennon and George Harrison are passionate about their guitars and their acquisitions are often coordinated in their purchase, exchange or loan. Their instruments make it possible to establish the list of the best manufacturers of electric and electro-acoustic guitars of their time.
Their first electric guitars in 1959 were Höfner Club 40. In 1960 John acquired a Rickenbacker 325. In 1962 they each buy a Gibson acoustic J-160E equipped with a pickup, a practical solution for a disconnected playing during travel. Add to this list Gretsch, Fender and Martin.
In 1963 George replaces his Gretsch Duo Jet with a Country Gentleman of the same brand. In July the new guitar requires some urgent rework and George needs an instrument for the ongoing concerts. The repair vendor, Barratts in Manchester, lends him a Maton Mastersound MS-500.
This is an excellent opportunity for George to test an Australian electric guitar. Created in 1946 by the May brothers, one of them specialist and machinist of rare Australian wood and the other a guitar enthusiast, Maton is the leader in its Australian market.
The Mastersound meets George's immediate needs : before restituting it to Barratts, he plays it on stage for five weeks. He then returns to the Country Gent.
The Australian guitar is exchanged soon afterward by Barratts with the guitarist of The Cruisers for a Fender Stratocaster. It was sold for $ 485K including premium by Julien's on May 16, 2015. It is estimated £ 300K for sale by Gardiner Houlgate on September 12 at Corsham near Bath, lot 189 here linked on The Saleroom bidding platform. Here is the link to the Guitar department of the auction house.
The Country Gent meets a tragic end in 1965. Not stuck on the roof of the Beatles van, it falls and is crushed by the road traffic. The team is looking for it. A trucker picks up the pieces and tells them "Is this banjo anything to do with you?".

1964 Beatlemania in America
2018 SOLD for £ 253K including premium
In 1963 the Beatlemania is at its height in England. Brian Epstein prepares for the conquest of America. Traditional protectionism will be ineffective to restrict the popular excitement. The group lands in New York on February 6, 1964. Their first performance is at the Ed Sullivan Show, live on CBS, watched by 73 million viewers.
The first public Beatles concert in America takes place on February 11 at the Washington Coliseum. The stage is a central ring equipped with a rotating plateau so that the spectators can in turn see the band from front side. The sound is far from perfect.
An 18-year-old photographer named Mike Mitchell managed to get a press accreditation. He takes photos throughout the show in the stage lighting without using a flash. He thus records the ambience in a chiaroscuro that in the best images evokes a solarization.
The Beatles leave but soon come back for a summer tour of 24 North American cities. Mitchell completes his collection on September 13 in the Baltimore concert.
For nearly half a century these views are unknown. On July 20, 2011 Christie's dedicates an auction to a selection of 46 digitally improved photos. The sale fetches $ 360K including premium. The most iconic 40 x 40 cm print showing in silhouettes the heads of the four boys was sold for $ 68K including premium.
On March 24 in Merseyside near Liverpool, Omega Auctions sells in a single lot all 413 negatives, 56 high-resolution digital files, 71 new prints signed by the photographer, the original contact prints with a scan, and the full copyright.
The set is estimated £ 250K, lot 200 here linked on The Saleroom bidding platform. Please watch the video shared by the auction house which is an interview of the photographer illustrated with some images.

1966 four butchers on John's wall
2019 sold for £ 180k including premium
A prototype of the rarest cover of The Beatles was sold for $ 125K including premium by Heritage on November 11, 2017, lot 89241. It is estimated £ 120K for sale by Julien's in Liverpool on May 9, lot 266.
I narrated it as follows before the 2017 sale. Please also watch the pre-sale video shared by Heritage.
In 1966 in a setting for the photographer Robert Whitaker, The Beatles in butchers' overcoats surround themselves with pieces of red meat and beheaded baby dolls.
There is something to frighten the bourgeois. Yet this picture is printed in 750,000 copies for the cover of their new album Yesterday and Today edited in the United States. Rightly feeling a risk of scandal, Capitol Records calls back the copies already delivered to retailers and sticks a good picture devoid of any English fun.
There was of course no reason to recover a prototype with a blank back side that had been presented to John Lennon. John enjoyed that irreverent piece that he displayed on the wall in his apartment in New York.
In 1971 John obtained an illegal recording of the group made by a teenager. Delighted with this operation he inscribes the prototype to his fan in a bubble above his own head. The blank back is illustrated with a drawing made by John showing with his usual nervous line a man with his shovel and dog. Later the young man got the autograph signatures of Paul and Ringo.

1966 THE FABULOUS FOUR BUTCHERS
2011 SOLD 26 K$ INCLUDING PREMIUM
PRE SALE DISCUSSION
The Beatles have fun. They set the stage for the photographers with a boundless imagination.
In 1966 in the United States, Capitol Records adds to its catalog a new release, gently titled Yesterday and Today. Thecover, printed in 750,000 copies, is a photo taken earlier that year by Robert Whitaker.
The four boys are dressed in butcher smocks littered with pieces of meat and beheaded dolls. In the old America more sensitive to the issues of Vietnam war than to British humor, the outcry was immediate. Capitol retrieved the copiess till in the factory or already in retail stores, and glued over the controversial image another photo, conventional and decorous. The incident is closed.
Obviously, some copies with the Butcher cover escaped this repair. The director of Capitol set aside some units known to collectors as the Livingston Butchers. One of them, never opened, was sold for $ 39K including premium by Heritage in Dallas on April 14, 2006.
From another source, the copy for sale by Heritage on February 18 in Beverly Hills is in mint condition, never handled, still factory sealed. It is estimated $ 30K, and illustrated in the press release shared by the auction house.

1967 Growing Success for the Beatles
2013 SOLD 290 K$ including premium
PRE SALE DISCUSSION
Restituting music by a diamond or sapphire which travels onto the groove of a rotating disk is an obsolete technique. I had very few opportunities to discuss the vinyls in this column. Over only one weekend, this market has displayed asurprising vigor with regard to the high end in perfect condition. Beneficiaries are Elvis and the Beatles.
A Beatles album was sold for $ 39K including premium by Heritage on April 14, 2006. It had the rare cover with the photo of the butchers which had been immediately removed from distribution for not offending the sensitive souls.Despite a good advertisement, another copy had a disappointing result, sold $ 26K including premium by Heritage onFebruary 18, 2011 without reaching its lower estimate of $ 30K.
Now, here are the two recent results.
On March 22 at 65 km east of Liverpool, a stereo vinyl of the first Beatles album was sold £ 7.5K including premium by Omega Auctions.
On March 24 in Dublin, Whyte's sold € 65K before fees an acetate by Elvis which is the only surviving promotional copy of his first commercial album in 1954.
In 1967, the Beatles take great care to the preparation of a studio album. Tired of the stage, they are passionate about this project in which each of the four boys brings his own nonconformist personality. Success is phenomenal. Oddlytitled 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band ', the album includes very famous songs like Lucy in the Sky and A day in the life.
On March 30 in Dallas, Heritage sells a copy in perfect condition of Sgt Pepper signed by each of the Beatles over his own photo on the cover. It was announced in the catalog with a cautious estimate of $ 30K. Five days before the sale, the online bidding already reaches $ 90K before fees. Here is the link to the catalog.
POST SALE COMMENT
The best autographs from the Beatles are highly appreciated. They raised the price of this album up to $ 290K including premium.

1967 The Truth about Lucy
2011 SOLD 236 K$ including premium
PRE SALE DISCUSSION
This story will remain forever one of the most famous controversial cases of pop music.
In 1967, Julian Lennon, aged four, is at the nursery. He brings home the watercolor he made during the day. He drewa classmate girl and said to his father: "It's Lucy in the sky with diamonds. "
The anecdote is true. Later, Lucy identified herself and all details are consistent, but the story had not ended there.
Julian's sentence had inspired John for the theme of that psychedelic song which would become one of the best of the Beatles repertoire.
We are indeed in the time of Beats and Hippies and of the search for acid paradises. LSD, is it not precisely the encrypted meaning of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds? John denies this interpretation, but is it plausible that he had really no thought of it? The trouble starts, including the prohibition of the song on the BBC.
A remarkable document, with the atrocious writing pattern of John, is for sale on May 15 by Profiles in History in Beverly Hills. This 20 x 25 cm includes a drawing, or rather a sketch, with some draft lines of the lyrics included below it. The drawing shows four characters in a room, behind a theater curtain.
This lot, shown on the catalog page shared by LiveAuctioneers, is estimated $ 200K.
POST SALE COMMENT

1969 Relic from a Happening of John and Yoko
2008 SOLD 420 K£ including premium
This piece of paper may seem ridiculous, but nothing stops the fans of the Beatles. Just married, John Lennon and Yoko Ono organized a happening in Amsterdam, where they received their visitors in their room in night clothing for a continuous week. The success was such that they repeated it two months later with the same scenario on the other side of the Atlantic, in Montreal at the end of May 1969.
Of course, these events were also a pretext to create a fetish song, which was in Montreal "Give Peace a Chance". In eleven irregular lines, John scribbles in the text, very short, but where he still manages to pay tribute to Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg and twice proclaim Hare Krishna. The Woodstock Festival was to be held in August the same year, the tone is set (with virtually no pun).
His work being unreadable, John had it copied by a young girl who had managed to be accepted inside the room. She recovered the autograph that day or later, whatever.
Still being quite wise, nearly 40 years later, the depositary of this relic went to Christie's. The auctioneer considered it to 200 K£, for sale under number 250 on July 10 in London.
Christie's does not take its customers by surprise for such important pieces: the press release was published more than two months ago. Christie's is right: some feast lovers of 1969 have become rich.

1972 The Abbey Road Console
2017 SOLD for $ 1.8M by Bonhams
The time for crooners is over. To maintain a difference between them, rock groups must master all sound techniques, not just musical instruments. The Beatles use the recording studios of the EMI record label. In front of the door, the pedestrian crossing on Abbey Road becomes famous with the cover of the last album prepared by the group, in 1969. Relying on this triumph, EMI Recording Studios is renamed Abbey Road Studios.
The Pink Floyd owe their success to the psychedelic music. Four-track tape recorders and eight-track consoles are not suitable for this new level of sonic complexity. EMI is developing a sixteen-track console.
The Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd's eighth studio album, is recorded in 1972 and 1973 on this new generation MK IV hardware. EMI engineers have managed to maintain a perfect musicality with no less than ten tracks mixed. The album will remain for 591 consecutive weeks in the top 200 of the specialized magazine Billboard.
The console had an intensive use, including with Paul, George and Ringo, before being replaced by more modern equipment in 1983. It was then acquired by an employee of Abbey Road who started an independent production business. It was sold by Bonhams on May 27, 2017 for $ 1.8M including premium from an estimate of $ 700K, lot 35. There had been also a spare MK IV console at Abbey Road.

(1958)-1973 George's Gibson Les Paul 'Ransom' Guitar
2022 SOLD for $ 310K by Heritage
The preferred guitar of George Harrison was a red Gibson Les Paul from 1957 provided to him in 1968 by Eric Clapton. George named it Lucy by reference to the red haired television star Lucille Ball.
In 1973 Lucy was stolen in a burglary at George's home. Before it was listed by the police as a stolen property, the red guitar had been sold bona fide to a Mexican musician at a music store. When the new owner was informed by the shop manager that his purchase was illegal, he only accepted to return Lucy against an equivalent instrument.
George was so enticed with Lucy that he accepted, although he will later refer to this action as a kidnapping. He purchased for that purpose a sunburst Gibson Les Paul from 1958 and added to the ransom a Fender bass. The sunburst guitar will be sold by Heritage on September 24, 2022, lot 85027. It is demonstrated by a performer in the video shared by the auction house.
George then kept his beloved Lucy until his death in 2001.

1975 the flying graceland
2015 undisclosed result
1973 is a bad year for Elvis Presley, 38 years old. Serious health problems arise and his wife is divorcing against his will. In response, he accepts more and more concert tours.
The purchase of two jets in 1975 is the result of this spiral into hyper-activity. He is threatened by fatigue, and his frequent nocturnal trips should be as comfortable as his Graceland estate. The Lisa Marie, named from his only daughter, will be his Flying Graceland in his own words.
Elvis defines all the furnishings and colors of this airplane, which includes his personal bedroom, a dormitory, a bathroom, a conference room.
The other plane, named Hound Dog II, is used as a spare and also for the travels of his business partners.
The two jets are used for the last time at the funeral of Elvis in 1977. Having become a time capsule of the jet set of that time, they were displayed to the public at Graceland from 1984 through a joint venture with its owners that expires in 2015.
They will be for sale as one lot by Julien's in a process of sealed bid auction that will close on February 2 and are described in the release of the auction house.
Julien's announced to Reuters an estimate between $ 10M and 15M. The winning bidder will be invited to acquire a few acres adjacent to Graceland for keeping these two extraordinary Elvis memorabilia accessible by fans and tourists.

1977 The Disco Era
2017 SOLD for $ 1.2M including premium
Social life is changing for better and for worse. The young people from the working class cancel their boredom every weekend by dancing, dating and drinking in discotheques. A rock critic named Nik Cohn published in 1975 a story describing a dance hall in which the floor is illuminated in the rhythm of the music. He admitted twenty years later that this sensational animation had emerged from his own imagination.
The cinema takes hold of that idea. A 7 x 5 m floor is built, including 250 luminous compartments that illuminate in red, blue or yellow under the feet of the dancers. It is installed in a real nightclub in Brooklyn, considered as typical to the social environment addict to the disco.
John Travolta rehearses for unrestrained dances that are filmed in full length to avoid suspicion of dubbing, thus permanently showing the illumination of the floor. Released in 1977, the film Saturday Night Fever is a great success that launches the career of Travolta and leads the music of the Bee Gees at the top of the hit parade. Disco becomes a social phenomenon.
The dance floor remained in the Brooklyn nightclub until the closure of that establishment in 2005. It was so far ahead of its time that it was reused for another movie in 2012 with new panels offsetting the worn original panels.
The complete 1977 floor accompanied with its original light organ and its 2012 spare panels is estimated $ 1M for sale by Profiles in History in Calabasas CA on June 27, lot 1216 here linked on the Invaluable bidding platform.

1983 The Pasadena Moonwalk
2019 UNSOLD
On March 25, 1983 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, the company Motown Records celebrates its 25 years with an important live show. Michael Jackson performs twice : with the Jackson 5 family band and as a solo dancer. This dance accompanies his song Billie Jean which is one of the biggest hits from his Thriller album.
For this interpretation, Michael innovates with both dance steps and stage outfits. This is the first moonwalk that he danced before an audience. He did not invent the moonwalk, a jumping step practiced by the mimes to give the illusion of a contradictory movement between the body and the legs, but he integrates it here in a complex choreography. MJ told that he had been appealed by this movement while watching Harlem kids dancing it in the street.
He is dressed in black jacket and pants that contrast with the white sequined shirt. He wears on his left hand a white glove entirely covered with rhinestones while the right hand remains bare. This is the first spectacular use of his signature white glove. It will be known later that he did not want to draw the public attention to the disease that was discoloring his skin.
The glove worn by Michael at Pasadena was sold for $ 430K including premium by Julien's on November 21, 2009. The socks matched the glove. Worn in the black shoes, they sparkled during the virtuoso movements of the dance. The pair of socks is estimated $ 1M in the online sale organized by Gotta Have Rock and Roll, ending on November 22, lot 1.
The Billie Jean moonwalk performed in Pasadena was broadcasted by NBC on May 16, 1983. MJ stood out in this clip from his previous videos such as Thriller whose scenario was complicated. He gained a considerable popularity in the nightclubs by this new dance of which he had shown that the variations were unlimited.
The release published by TMZ on November 6 was updated on November 7 for a claim disputing that the pair of socks coming for sale was used in the Motown-NBC event.
After this success Michael systematically reused the white glove in his concerts, with variations of material : Swarovski crystals, electric lighting. To the delight of the audience, he frequently danced the Moonwalk and used this word as the title of his autobiography in 1988.

1984 WHITE GLOVE FOR MICHAEL JACKSON
2009 SOLD 70.8 K$ INCLUDING PREMIUM
PRE SALE DISCUSSION
From July to December 1984, the Jackson brothers make a triumphant tour in the United States and Canada. This event is known as the Victory Tour. A white glove used by Michael Jackson on this occasion is on sale on October 9 at Profiles in History, an auction house which built its reputation on the Hollywood memorabilia and is based in Calabasas, California. Please note that this auction date supersedes the information previously published.
This is not just any glove, of course. It is illuminating, by fifty small lights powered by a 9V battery placed in the cuff. Designed by Ted Shell, this object was made in two copies (which do not pair). It is adorned with crystals, as was also the stage suit. An active electronic circuit make the lights randomly twinkling.
Show business and technology did not mix that year. Several months earlier, Michael Jackson had been badly burned by a pyrotechnic equipment during the filming of a publicity. This accident prompted him to create a center for burn victims. No doubt the safety of his glove has been verified ...
For the price, wait for the sale. Saying only that it is an iconic object from the zenith time of Jackson.
POST SALE COMMENT
This glove is not a single accessory in the career of Jackson. Others have appeared on the market since I published my article above. Let us just quote the price of this one, which had supported a prestigious tour: 60 K$ before fees, 70.8 K$ including premium.
The description, picture and results are shared by iCollector, which has provided the web bidding support to the auction house.

1992 three hours with beyoncé
2018 unsold
There is a place for groups of small girls in hip hop music but many are interested and the competition is severe. Girl's Tyme was founded in Houston in 1990. Beyoncé, LaTavia and their two friends are 9 years old. They dance and sing, and imagine choreographies.
Footages are filmed in 1992 in California for preparing an album. 19 videotapes for a total duration of almost 3 hours surfaced in 2016. The quality of recording is professional. The group is then composed of six girls. Beyoncé already has the temperament of a leader with a great performance on stage and the ability to play solo. It is amazing to see her at the dawn of her fabulous career.
This video package will be sold in one lot including copyrights. This collection includes the two video montages that were made to prepare an edition. The lot is estimated £ 1.5M for sale by Ted Owen in London on March 13 in a timed auction on the Invaluable bidding platform, lot 12.
The girls are very young and despite their enthusiasm the success does not come. They overcome their disappointments and create in 1995 the group Destiny's Child whose first album, released in 1998, is sold in 500,000 copies. Beyoncé is then 17 years old.
Please watch the two teaser clips shared by the auction house in November 2016 and February 2018.
